Claudia Schiffer ‘to convert wing of her Tudor mansion’ for dogs

Claudia Schiffer is reportedly planning to convert a wing of her 14-bedroom Tudor mansion into luxury accommodation for her dogs at her 530-acre Suffolk estate.

The supermodel, 49, and her film-director husband Matthew Vaughn, 49, have lived in the property called Coldham Hall for nearly 18 years with their three children.

A keen lover of animals, Claudia has a collection of dogs, including a German Shepherd called Rollo and black Spaniels called Flash and Frank. She also has beloved cat Smartie.

Plans? Claudia Schiffer is reportedly planning to convert a wing of her 14-bedroom Tudor mansion into luxury accommodation for her dogs at her 530-acre Suffolk estate (pictured in 2019)

According to The Sun, the model has applied to West Suffolk Council to convert rundown rooms in the wing of her house built in 1574 into luxury accommodation for her dogs, a security office and kitchen.

The plans are said to have drawings of ‘two dog beds, work tops, an open fire and sink’.

The Sun claims that a report says: ‘The alterations proposed are restricted to the ground floor north service wing which is a single storey addition to the main part of the house, enclosed within a walled courtyard.

‘The wing presently provides three rooms and a lean-to shed. The majority of this accommodation is finished with uninsulated concrete floors, bare brickwork and flint rubble walls and an exposed roof structure with a partially sloping plastered ceiling.

‘All these rooms are presently under-used in an important location at the main entrance to the house and the proposed new uses will improve catering facilities, administration and security of the site with minimal change in the existing appearance or risk of damage to historic fabric.’

MailOnline has contacted Claudia’s representative for comment.

Claudia lives at the property with her husband Matthew and their three children Caspar, 17, Clementine, 15 and Cosima, 10.

The couple are believed to have originally paid around £7.5 million for their mansion and have lived in it for nearly 18 years.

Claudia previously revealed that she and Matthew turned up at the property unannounced and asked whether the owners were selling it.

She told Architectural Digest in 2017: ‘We basically knocked on the door and said, “We love this place,” They had no idea who we were or what we were doing there.’

Just months later in 2002, the couple purchased the stunning property and even had their wedding at the mansion.

Their residency of the Elizabethan home, which once belonged to Gunpowder Plot conspirator Ambrose Rookwood, has not always been smooth.

In March, it was reported that the couple had taken their local council to court after they approved their neighbours controversial home extension plans.

Claudia and Matthew have been trying to stop Hans Pilo building a modern extension near their Grade I listed manor home, south of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

While in 2002, a stalker made nine separate trips to the estate to try to glimpse Schiffer and two years later a Canadian man was accused of harassing her by bombarding the house with letters.

Schiffer and Vaughn were also spoken to by the police after one of their dogs – they own an Irish wolfhound and a German shepherd – mauled a local’s Jack Russell.

And in 2014, a fire ripped through some of the outbuildings, destroying a historic clock tower.

Coldham Hall is built in 1574 and is believed to have been named after Queen Elizabeth I, who was not amused after she was served cold ham there and christened it Coldham Hall.

Coldham Hall Cottage was built sometime between 1905 and 1957, according to a council planning officer.

The official allowed the building to be redeveloped because its historical and architectural significance was ‘minimal’.

‘Coldham Hall Cottage is clearly a much later addition constructed sometime between the early to mid 20th Century,’ she wrote.

‘Whilst not an unattractive building displaying vernacular influences to include a reasonably steep pitch affording accommodation within the roof space, its architectural and historic significance is minimal.’
