Shoppers in north London were confronted by the baffling sight of a man swinging an umbrella at a clown in a heated altercation outside a branch of McDonald’s.

Footage, which is believed to have been recorded on Monday, shows a man in a blue jacket knocking the clown’s wig off with the umbrella at Wood Green Shopping Centre in Hornsey, London.

Throughout the encounter he keeps yelling at the clown: ‘Go and get a job.’  

The clown, who is wearing bright yellow trousers and a red jacket, points at the man who is continuing to wield an umbrella.

The person recording can be heard saying: ‘Hey one on one with the clown.’ 

The man in blue continues to try and hit the clown with the umbrella, before attempting to kick him.

The man filming says: ‘Why is he having a one on one with the clown, what’s going on?’

The clown backs away towards the McDonald’s where a member of staff comes out and tries to speak with the clown.

Members of the public can be heard laughing in the background as the umbrella-wielding man walks away and the clown gets out his mobile phone, with his wig still lying on the floor.

The footage of the bizarre row was shared to Twitter where it has been watched more than 500,000 times, leaving many viewers baffled.

One user joked: ‘Many people don’t realise that McDonald’s is a safe haven for all clowns in times of distress.’

Others joked that they did not know which one the clown was in the video, with one person commenting that they thought ‘they were both clowns’.

Another person said: ‘New IT movie doesn’t have the same feel as the others.’
