Ed Sheeran’s first ever album, made when the star was aged 13, to go up for auction with a price tag of £10k… and it’s one of only 20 copies in existence

As one of the world’s biggest pop acts, Ed Sheeran’s albums usually sell more than seven million copies each worldwide.

But one lucky fan could get his very first album all to themselves when it’s put up for auction next month − though they’ll need to have at least £10,000 spare.

Sheeran, 29, made just 20 copies of the album of love songs, called Spinning Man, recorded when he was 13.

Chart-topping singer Sheeran owns 19 of them, with the final CD handed to a family friend whose sofa he was sleeping on during his days as a busker.

The man’s brother, known only as Kevin, 48, found the signed CD in a drawer and it is expected to fetch £10,000 at auction next month.

‘My brother put it in a drawer and forgot about it,’ said Kevin – who was impressed by the album’s ‘Eric Clapton moments’.

He added: ‘Ed Sheeran was this wee, ginger-haired busker. He didn’t realise he would go on to be one of the world’s biggest pop stars.’

Sheeran, who is worth £200million and is reportedly expecting a child with wife Cherry Seaborn, previously admitted he didn’t want anyone to get a copy of the CD.

In his book, Ed Sheeran: A Visual Journey, he said of the project: ‘In 2004, I made my very first album.

‘There were 14 songs and they were all songs that rhymed. One lyric went: “I’m a typical average teen if you know what I mean.”

There are probably 20 copies and I have 19 of them. I don’t want anyone else to get hold of a copy.’

He revealed the album is about his ‘first love’ Claire, adding: ‘It was a very innocent love… then came my first break-up. I wrote a lot of songs off the back of it – my first love songs.’

Paul Fairweather, from Omega Auctions, said the album is a ‘milestone in the development of one of the world’s biggest pop stars’.

Sheeran’s later albums – titled + (Plus), x (Multiply) and ÷ (Divide) – all topped the UK charts.
