Locky Gilbert rejected by his own state! Perth viewers tune out of new season of The Bachelor as the show premieres to its LOWEST ever audience in Australia

His season premiere of The Bachelor pulled in a measly 681,000 metro viewers on Wednesday night, the show’s lowest-ever audience for a debut.

And it seems even viewers in Locky Gilbert’s own state are not interested in watching one of their own find love on-screen.

Just 71,000 people in Western Australia tuned in to see hunky Perth-based Locky meet his 23 suitresses.

Embarrassingly Highway Patrol and The Chase attracted more viewers, with 88,000 and 86,000 tuning in respectively.

In fact, the premiere didn’t even place in the top ten shows on Wednesday night.

The Bachelor pulled in just 681,000 metro viewers on the night, which is the show’s lowest-ever audience for a season premiere.

Regional numbers boosted this figure to 872,000 nationally, but the debut episode was still behind ABC’s Hard Quiz in the ratings.

Fortunately, The Bachelor topped all the key demographics, which means that Channel 10 will most likely still consider the show a success.

The network’s head of programming, Daniel Monaghan, said: ‘The new season of The Bachelor Australia has started strongly on all platforms.

‘It was the number one show on TV last night in under 50s and all the key demographics, #1 in live streaming and the #1 entertainment show on social media.

‘We’re pleased with how Australians have responded to the beginning of Locky’s journey to find his one true love.’

‘It’s going to be a great season with lots of fun, laughter, romance, tears and, of course, more than one curveball as the contestants find themselves searching for love in a global pandemic,’ Monaghan concluded.

While The Bachelor wasn’t the most-watched entertainment show on Wednesday, it was nonetheless an improvement on last week’s Bachelor in Paradise.

Paradise had only 490,000 metro viewers in the same 7.30pm time slot last week.

During The Bachelor premiere, Locky Gilbert was undoubtedly spoilt for choice as he met a bevvy of flirtatious women who pulled out all the stops to impress him.

However, the episode wasn’t without its drama as contestant Zoe-Clare McDonald had a bizarre meltdown over being the ‘only redhead’ in the mansion.

In a franchise first, Locky was allowed to hand out a ‘triple threat rose’, which guaranteed one lucky lady a single date, a group date and an invitation to the exclusive ‘Bachelor pad’.

During the rose ceremony at the end of the episode, the former Australian Survivor star sent home two girls, Paige Royal and Nadine Kodsi.

The Bachelor continues Thursday at 7:30pm on Channel 10
