Masked Singer Australia: Show’s return divides viewers

‘Can these performances be released on Spotify?’ The Masked Singer divides viewers with some calling it a ‘beacon of joy’ while others say the show is ‘an insult to the intellect of anyone with an IQ over 40’

It’s the popular zany reality show that finally made a return to Channel 10 on Monday night.

And it seems audiences had mixed reactions about the show’s season two premiere, which saw tennis legend Mark Philippoussis unveiled as Echidna.

‘Masked Singer is just a beacon of joy in the trash fire that is 2020,’ one viewer wrote.

‘Can these performances be released on Spotify? They’re so beautiful,’ a second inquired, clearly overwhelmed by the casting.

‘What a ride, love this s**t,’ commented a third, before a fourth said: ‘I don’t want either of the masked singers to go home. I’m enjoying the performances too much…’

One viewer praised the madcap romp, calling it the ‘trippiest thing ever’, while one another preferred to keep things short and sweet, simply saying, ‘Well, that was fun’.

Then there were the viewers who tuned in who were less than impressed with what was on offer.

High praise: One viewer praised the madcap romp, calling it the 'trippiest thing ever', while one another preferred to keep things short and sweet, simply saying, 'Well, that was fun'

‘What a load of old bollox,’ one fan began before writing. ‘This program is an insult to the intellect of anyone with an IQ over 40.

‘The Dumbing down of society is nearly complete,’ they continued.

‘Actually terrified of the #MaskedSingerAU. Seriously how can you not have nightmares from this show,’ another wrote.

Bingo: Jackie 'O' Henderson got it right, guessing: 'I agree that it's a tennis player, and he's got a brilliant serve, he's done modelling. I am locking in Mark Philippoussis.'

On Monday night’s episode, the Echidna was the first character to be revealed.

Behind the mask was a sportsman with a surprisingly smooth voice – none other than tennis champion Mark Philippoussis.
