Alex Nation reveals her son Elijah’s heartwarming reaction after she told him she was gay 

Former Bachelor contestant Alex Nation has spoken about the moment she told her son, Elijah, she was gay.

Alex, 28, had to come out to her son, who was six years old at the time, when she started dating another woman in 2017.

She explained on the Me After You podcast that Elijah already knew her girlfriend, Maegan Luxa, because the two women played on the same football team. 

‘We were friends first and when we started to get in a romantic relationship, she was coming over a bit more and we were going over to Maegan’s more,’ Alex said. 

‘Then it got to the point where I thought, “I really love this person and I want it to go further than a friendship.”‘

When things started becoming serious with Maegan, Alex said she knew it was time to have a serious chat with her son.  

‘I remember sitting Elijah down and explaining to him, “You know how mummy loves daddy and we were together once upon a time? Well I really love Maegan and I have feelings for Maegan, do you understand what that means?”’

She continued: ‘And he was like, “Yeah it means you’re gay.”‘

Alex said it was a ‘beautiful’ moment because she knew Elijah ‘didn’t care’ about her sexual orientation and had no concerns.  

‘There was no negative feelings or concerns and that’s what I found so beautiful because children are like that,’ she said. 

‘They don’t see it in any other way than just loving a person.’

She added that Elijah ’embraced Maegan with open arms’ and they ‘are still best friends’ to this day, even though the two women have since broken up.

Alex announced her engagement to Maegan in December 2017, but they split in April the following year.

Reality TV fans will remember Alex as the winner of Richie Strahan’s season of The Bachelor in 2016. Despite declaring their love for each other in the finale, their romance was short lived.
