Married At First Sight relationship expert Mel Schilling has undergone surgery for skin cancer  

Mel Schilling has revealed that she’s undergone surgery to remove a skin cancer near her collarbone. 

The Married At First Sight star, 48, shared a photo to Instagram on Friday, showing the results of the procedure, with a painful wound covered by a bandage. 

Alongside the sombre image, she explained: ‘SKIN CANCER. I’ve just had one removed and I’m really fortunate that it was caught early and it was not too deep. 

‘A stark reminder to get regular checks – I have an annual skin check up and this is why this little guy was identified and cut out before it became dangerous.’

The psychologist went on to discuss Deborah Hutton, who recently shared her own skin cancer story. 

‘Like @deborahhutton I’d like to urge you all to have regular skin checks – especially if, like me, you grew up in Australia in the 70’s and 80’s when sun-baking and getting ‘burnt to a crisp’ was fashionable and baby oil took the place of sunscreen’.  

Deborah Hutton underwent surgery to remove two skin cancers from her face in May, and earlier this week she spoke about her terrifying experience.

In an interview with A Current Affair on Monday, the 58-year-old Australian media personality admitted she was ‘shocked’ by the devastating diagnosis.

Deborah said she had had a basal cell carcinoma removed from the exact same spot on her face nine years earlier, and was stunned to discover it had returned.

Calling it a ‘deeper and bigger operation’ than the one she required the first time around, Deborah said she ‘didn’t expect it’. 

She admitted she was worried it would leave her face irrevocably scarred after having carved out a successful career as a model.

But she said she’s ‘not self-conscious’ about the scarring, knowing the skin cancer could have killed her.
