Former Married At First Sight star Zoe Hendrix slams new Bachelorettes Elly and Becky Miles

Former Married At First Sight star Zoe Hendrix slams The Bachelorette for lack of diversity and casting ‘two blond white thin straight women’

Zoe Hendrix has lashed out at new Bachelorettes, sisters Elly and Becky Miles, comparing them to ‘white bread’ and saying the show should have chosen a more diverse set of contestants.

The former Married At First Sight star, who appeared on the reality show in 2015, shared a meme to Instagram on Friday, showing packets of white bread over the sisters’ faces and the caption: ‘Australian TV in 2020’.

Alongside it, she wrote at length: ‘TWO blond white thin straight women as the next Bachelorette was not what we had in mind when we said we wanted more DIVERSITY & REPRESENTATION!

‘Yikes! Is this meant to be groundbreaking television? Are we living on different planets? Why is it so hard in 2020 to cast a beautiful indigenous, Asian or black woman?? How about a lesbian or bisexual woman?’

She added: ‘And does anyone else think it’s a bit off to have sisters possibly competing over a guy?’

Some of Zoe’s concerns may be addressed – if the current season follows the same format as The Bachelorette New Zealand, which also had two Bachelorettes this year, the sisters will not be competing over the same suitors.

Instead, they will each pick from a group of contestants chosen for them specifically.

The contestants vying for Elly and Becky’s roses may not all be men, as the Channel 10 dating show could be casting for both male and female suitors.

A casting ad for the show asked for: ‘single women and men between the ages of 23-35’ who are available to film from mid June to August for up to 12 weeks.

At this stage it is not confirmed whether the female suitors will be there for Elly or Becky, but Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Channel 10 for comment.

Zoe is not the only former reality star who has weighed in on the casting of  Elly , 25, and her sister Becky, 30, as the next Bachelorettes.

Bachelor in Paradise star Abbie Chatfield believes that Channel 10 should have picked someone racially diverse or gay.

The 25-year-old also revealed who she would have picked instead in an interview with Who Magazine

‘I was hoping it would be Brooke Blurton [from Nick Cummins’ season], she seemed like a good choice for racial diversity and also representing the LGBTQIA+ community, and she’s great,’ Abbie said.

Despite Elly and Becky not being her first choice, the blonde is excited to see how the show will work with two Bachelorettes this season.
