Bachelor in Paradise: Jamie Doran hires lawyer in Channel 10 legal case

EXCLUSIVE: Bachelor in Paradise star Jamie Doran hires the lawyer who helped Nasser Sultan sue a newspaper that defamed him – as he prepares for a court showdown with Channel 10

Jamie Doran has officially started legal proceedings against Channel 10 and Warner Bros. over his unfair portrayal on The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise.

Less than 24 hours after Channel 10 issued a statement implying that Jamie was bluffing, the former firefighter has hired a defamation lawyer to represent him.

He has recruited Sydney lawyer Keith Redenbach, a partner of Redenbach Lee, who represented Married At First Sight star Nasser Sultan in his case against The Daily Telegraph two years ago.

A source close to Jamie told told Daily Mail Australia: ‘Channel 10 came out with a statement basically saying Jamie was all talk and no action.

‘Now he has lawyered up. He wants to take a stand for all future reality stars who are bullied and slandered on national TV’.

Mr Redenbach made headlines in 2018 when he helped win Nasser Sultan win an undisclosed financial settlement from The Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper had falsely claimed that Nasser had ‘gatecrashed an A-list event’ in Sydney when he had in fact been invited as a special guest.

It comes after Jamie announced on Wednesday morning that he was taking legal action over his negative portrayal on the Channel 10 dating franchise.

‘This is not the news I wanted to post, but I feel I owe this to at least my family, friends, and also fans of The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise,’ he wrote on Instagram.

He continued: ‘After lengthy consideration, I’ve decided to begin legal proceedings against Network 10 and Warner Bros. Australia.

‘I’m not going to comment on this any further for the time being and would appreciate it if people would respect my privacy.’

At the time, a Channel 10 spokesperson dismissed the legal threat in a brief statement, saying that Jamie had not in fact engaged lawyers to act on his behalf against the broadcaster and production company.

‘Network 10 has not received any papers regarding this claim,’ a representative said.

Daily Mail Australia has since contacted Jamie Doran and Keith Redenbach for comment.

Jamie has been portrayed as a ‘stage-five clinger’ on Bachelor in Paradise so far this season, and received a similar edit on The Bachelorette last year. 

Some viewers have complained on Twitter that producers seem to be going out of their way to make him look ’emotionally unstable’.

A source close to Jamie told News Corp on Thursday: ‘He’s been made to look weird, like a complete idiot. That’s why he’s so upset.’
