Kelly Ripa was overcome with emotion on Monday, as she recalled finding out about the death of TV legend Regis Philbin, her co-host for a decade on Live! with Regis and Kelly.
Kelly, 49, was tearful as she spoke to her current Live! co-host Ryan Seacrest, revealing she was with family over the weekend when she first heard the news that Regis had died of natural causes, a month shy of his 89th birthday.
‘Mark [Consuelos] and I were lucky enough to have all of our children with us this past weekend on Saturday,’ Kelly said holding back tears. ‘We were all together when we heard this horrible news.’

Getting more emotional, she said: ‘As people get older, you always know that certain things are inevitable and passing away is one of those things, but Regis is one of the people that we all believed, I think, would somehow figure out a way around the inevitable. It was not in the cards, I suppose.’
Meanwhile, TMZ reported on Monday that the final resting place of the TV legend will be the Notre Dame Campus in Sound Bend, Indiana, as he was said to be a huge fan of The Notre Dame Fighting Irish athletic teams.
His funeral will take place at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the campus, though no date has currently been set.

Regis is survived by wife Joy Philbin, 79, and their two daughters J.J., 45, and Joanna, 47. Also his daughter Amy, 59, from his marriage to Catherine Faylen, their son Daniel died in 2014 aged 49.
Kelly has three children, sons Michael, 23, and Joaquin, 17, and daughter Lola, 19.

‘I just immediately thought of them and what it must feel like to know that somehow he couldn’t find the way to live forever that we all I think assumed or thought that he could…or would…or should or somehow God would give a special ticket for him,’ she said.

She revealed: ‘I know from Regis and me working with you all those years hosting the Disney Parade, we always looked at you Ryan like…They don’t make ’em like Regis anymore, right?’
‘And then here comes Ryan Seacrest and Regis is like, ‘That kid has it. He’s got it.’ It’s that thing that you don’t see anymore, the work ethic and the storytelling ability.’
