Katy Perry’s fifth album Smile – and wedding – to be delayed

Katy Perry has delayed her fifth studio album Smile.

The 35-year-old songbird took to Instagram to post a photo where she was dressed as a clown while getting a pie thrown in her face as she broke the bad news.

‘Welp. I hate to throw this bad news at you like a pie in the face…but if there’s anything 2020 taught me, it’s to not get too attached to plans and be malleable,’ began the star who is heavily pregnant with her first child  with fiancé Orlando Bloom.

Not now: Katy Perry has delayed her fifth studio album Smile. The 35-year-old songbird took to Instagram to post a photo where she was getting a pie thrown in her face as she broke the bad news

She added, ‘due to unavoidable production delays, my album #SMILE will now be released ✌weeks later on August 28 ☹️.’

In mid July, Perry unveiled the music video to her catchy new pop song, Smile.

She looks to be having fun in the promo video, donning a full clown costume while also playfully (and proudly) showing off her baby bump, as she jests around to the upbeat track.

Embracing her inner children’s entertainer, the quirky video sees Katy goofing about a white backdrop as she cleans a giant set of her own teeth while also propping up her own smile with her hands.

The song is to promote her new album Smile, which is out on August 14th, also around the same time as her expected due date.

‘There’s a lot that will be happening this summer,’ Katy teased recently, ‘not only will I be giving birth – literally – but also figuratively, to something you guys have been waiting for.’

Katy said in early July: ‘Step right up! Step right up! KP5 is called #SMILE’

‘I wrote the title track from the album when I was coming through one of the darkest periods of my life and had lost my smile. This whole album is my journey towards the light – with stories of resilience, hope, and love.’

Katy admitted she hopes the song Smile will give people “hopefulness”, as it did when she was penning the tune.

She added: ‘#SMILE – the song – is out everywhere now! I hope it can be a few minutes of energizing hopefulness for you as it is for meee (sic)’

The new record will include the already-release singles Never Really Over, Harleys in Hawaii, and Daisies.

In May, Katy admitted her 2017 split from Orlando – who she has since reconciled with – left her ‘broken’, and she was hoping to feel excited about her record ‘Witness’, but the album didn’t perform to her expectations.

She said: ‘My career was on this trajectory when it was going up, up and up and then I had the smallest shift, not that huge from an outside perspective. But for me it was seismic.

‘I had given so much out, and it literally broke me in half. I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby daddy-to-be.

‘And then I was excited about flying high off the next record. But the validation did not make me high, and so I just crashed.

‘Gratitude is probably the thing that saved my life, because if I did not find that I would have wallowed in my own sadness and probably just jumped.

‘But I found the ways to be grateful. If it gets really, really hard I walk around and say, ‘I am grateful, I am grateful,’ even though I am in a s***** mood.’

‘You can’t plan in 2020!’ Katy and her fiancé Orlando Bloom have pushed their wedding back for a second time (pictured together in 2018)

This comes after the couple pushed their wedding back for a second time. In a new interview, the singer admitted the couple are focusing on ‘delivering a healthy child’ as they prepare to welcome their daughter into the world next month.

The artist and the actor, 43, were rumoured to have originally planned to tie the knot last winter, before postponing the ceremony – allegedly set to take place in Japan – to this summer.

Katy told The Mirror: ‘You can’t plan anymore in 2020 because those plans are always cancelled.

‘We just want to deliver a healthy child. Everyone has to take life one week at a time right now.’

The musician echoed her comments in a recent interview with Howard Stern, detailing: ‘Obviously, that will happen in the future, but for now we just want to deliver a healthy child. And that’s what’s coming up right now!’

In March, Orlando revealed the coronavirus pandemic had affected the couple’s wedding plans.
