Matthew McConaughey shows off his six-pack abs on a beach in Hawaii with his wife Camila Alves

Matthew McConaughey looked revitalized on Thursday as he soaked up some rays on a beach in Hawaii with his family.

The 50-year-old star of The Beach Bum was looking fit and happy while engaging in some snorkeling in the cool water with his wife Camila Alves and family.

It wasn’t clear if the Oscar-winning actor was visiting the island state for work or pleasure, but he seemed to be having plenty of the latter.

Fun in the sun: Matthew McConaughey, 50, showed off her abs and fit figure during relaxing trip to a beach in Hawaii on Thursday

Matthew beamed as he stepped out of the surf in a low-rise pair of scarlet swim trunks.

He carried two sets of goggles and snorkels, along with his iPhone.

The Dazed and Confused star rocked a shaggy hairdo that was tousled and slicked back from swimming.

His muscular physique and youthful visage were a far cry from his appearance years earlier, when he lost almost 50lbs to play an AIDS patient in Dallas Buyers Club.

He continued to look somewhat gaunt in subsequent roles, like his iconic police detective Rust Cohle on the critically acclaimed first season of HBO’s True Detective.

Matthew and his family spent time relaxing on a boat during their tropical getaway.

Though he was ready for action, Camila, 38, appeared to take a pass on the swimming.

She covered up against the breeze in a loose-fitting navy blue shirt with short black leggings.

The Brazilian-born model wore large aviator sunglasses and had her raven tresses tied back in a high bun while she wrapped a bandana above her forehead.

Matthew has been a sober voice in recent weeks after weighing in on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the riots that sprung up across the nation following the police killing of George Floyd.

In a video posted to his Instagram account on the 4th of July, the Lincoln Lawyer star alluded to the protests against systemic racism and police brutality.

‘Happy 244th birthday, America. Hoo-wee!’ he shouted at the start, while wearing a red, white and blue bandana as sweat glistened on his face.

‘We is [sic] going through some growing pains in this one aren’t we? It is hotter in more ways than one, but growing pains are a good thing because how the hell else are we going to grow up?’

He continued: ‘We gotta look ourselves in the eye,’ seemingly referring to racial justice movements, while also encouraging his millions of Instagram followers to ‘wear the damn mask.’

‘It’s on me. It’s on you. It’s game time. Ding ding. We are in the ring, America,’ he concluded, bizarrely.

In June, he appeared on the Uncomfortable Conversations With A Black Man talk show, where he asked bluntly, ‘How does someone like me — how can I do better as a human? How can I do better as a man? How can I do better as a white man?’

Earlier on the trip, Matthew was joined on the boat by a woman who appeared to be his mother Mary Kathleen McCabe.

She had on a festive pink shirt and kept a gray mask securely over her face during the ride.

The actor had his own mask put below his mouth, making it useless, though other members of his party wore their masks throughout the day when they weren’t going in the water.

In an interview published with Town & Country last month, Matthew revealed that he speaks to his late father Jim McConaughey, who married and divorced his mother three times, to keep his memory alive.

‘In 1992, I was five days into shooting Dazed and Confused and I got a phone call that my father had passed on,’ he explained.

‘I drove to Houston to be with my family. I was with them for five days, and they told me to get back to work. The first night back, I was walking around and it hit me that my father was no longer here, but I could still keep his spirit alive if I talked aloud to him.

‘So, 28 years later, I’ve been unable to find anything that isn’t better if you take that mantra and slap it on it,’ he continued. ‘There are choices in life; there’s a way to make the ‘just keep livin” decision with every decision we make.’

Missing from the pleasure cruise were Matthew’s three children with Camila.

They share two sons, Levi, 12, and Livingston, seven, along with their 10-year-old daughter Vida.

In the same interview, the Dallas Buyers Club star admitted that he’s the more lenient of the two parents.

‘From the snicker that my wife’s giving me, it seems that I’m more consistently the yes guy. She’s probably right,’ he said.

Matthew married Camila back in June 2012, six years after they started dating.

The couple had already started a family by that point, with Levi arriving in July 2008 with Vida following soon after in January 2010.

Matthew had a busy 2019, with multiple film roles.

Most recently, he played the lead in Guy Ritchie’s all-star crime film The Gentleman, which also starred Hugh Grant, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrel and Henry Golding.

The actor also led the bizarre neo-noir crime drama Serenity and the stoner comedy The Beach Bum, and he filmed a short but impactful cameo for Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns: The Movie.
