Patti Newton shares a sweet message to husband Bert on his 82nd birthday and gifts him a lavish cake

They’ve been happily married since 1974. 

And on Thursday, Patti Newton, 75, gushed about her TV star husband Bert Newton as he celebrated his 82nd birthday.

The couple marked the occasion with a lavish cake which featured a black and white throwback portrait of the popular media personality.

Sharing a photo of the cake to her Instagram, Patti wrote: ‘My darling Bert turns 82 today. Happy Birthday from all of us.’

The post was quickly inundated with well wishes from fellow media personalities.

Sports commentator Sam Newman wrote: ‘Lucky only ten can gather at any one time, else your street would be overflowing with well wishers. I am one of them.’ 

Meanwhile, actor Tim Campbell wrote: ‘Happy Birthday Mr N. Love from Tom.’ 

It comes as the iconic Australian television couple were spotted taking care of their grandchildren in Melbourne earlier this week, while their daughter Lauren remains in hospital due to pregnancy complications.

The couple’s daughter Lauren, 40, revealed her heartbreak after spending five weeks separated from her young children.

She was admitted to the hospital nearly seven weeks ago due to complications with her sixth pregnancy. 

In a heartfelt post shared to Instagram, Lauren said: ‘Missing my gorgeous babies. It’s been five weeks so far of not seeing them while I’m in hospital due to pregnancy complications.’

Lauren went on to share her relief at knowing her five children were in such good hands, as they are cared for by their father, Matt, and their famous grandparents.

‘I miss them so much but Matt and Mum and Dad have done an incredible job,’ she said.
