Sarah Hyland and her fiancé Wells Adams get candid about postponing their wedding

Sarah Hyland and her fiancé Wells Adams have opened up about delaying their wedding amid the coronavirus pandemic in a new interview.

The 29-year-old Modern Family star and the 36-year-old Bachelorette suitor said they were focused on ‘what’s important right now’ in a chat with People published on Wednesday.

The couple explained that they would be holding off on their nuptials as long as the pandemic raged in order to set a positive example for others.

‘I think right now there are more important things to worry about,’ Sarah said of postponing the wedding.

‘We definitely want to get married one day and have the wedding of our dreams and have everybody that we love there,’ she continued.

‘But we postponed wedding planning because we want to be able to focus on what’s important right now, and that’s helping to spread information to wear masks and to only go out for essential needs and also take a really big look inside yourself and reflect on how you treat others.

‘There’s a lot of learning, and I’m really more focused on political things rather than wedding things,’ she added. ‘There is a lot going on in the world right now and that’s what we should be focused on.’

Sarah expressed her commitment to setting a good example after the United States reported more than 1,000 deaths in a single day on Tuesday, the first time the death rate has reached that high in April.

The US, which currently has reported 3.9 million coronavirus cases, is expected to hit 4 million cases shortly, according to CNN.

The desire to avoid unsafe gatherings was also sparked by Sarah’s immunocompromised status, a result of her struggle with kidney dysplasia.

She has to take regular immunosuppressants following two kidney transplants from her father (which later failed) and her younger brother.

Despite having to put their wedding plans on hold, Sarah and Wells thought that their time quarantining together had helped to strengthen their relationship.

‘One of the only positive things that has come out of this is we’re forced to slow down and maybe think about things in a different way,’ Wells chimed in. ‘There is a little bit of silver lining. Maybe something good can come out of this. And I’ve found it really wonderful to be with Sarah this entire time. It’s been nice to get to know her on a deeper level.

‘Before, we were working so much that it was a little bit like ships passing in the night. It’s been nice to keep falling in love with Sarah,’ he added.

The two lovebirds didn’t let their at-home quarantine stop them from having a great time when they celebrated their one-year engagement anniversary earlier this month.

‘We decided to get dressed up and cook a fancy meal and go to the theater, which was really watching Hamilton on the TV,’ Wells revealed.

‘I put on makeup,’ Sarah added. ‘It was a big deal!’
