MasterChef Australia’s Laura Sharrad broke down in tears on Monday night, after she narrowly missed out on winning the finale.

And after looking completely devastated when Emelia Jackson took out the title, fans couldn’t help but admit they felt bad for Laura.

One viewer said on Twitter that their ‘heart breaks’ for the pasta queen, while others confessed they were ‘crying’ while watching the episode.

‘My heart breaks for Laura. I hope her bashers stop hounding her now. She gave such a good fight,’ one fan tweeted.

They added: ‘But I’m so happy for Emelia! This was such an awesome finale, even without the fireworks of previous seasons.’

Another viewer wrote: ‘My god, pass me the tissues, what an episode and what a friggen roller coaster. I was crying happy tears for Emelia and crying sad tears for Laura. Those two have an outstanding friendship. This was a crazy episode to watch.’

During the season finale on Monday night, Emelia was crowned the winner of MasterChef: Back to Win. 

She was elated, crying out, ‘Are you serious? Are you serious?’ over and over in delight.

‘I just can’t believe it. It’s been the most special experience of my life and I owe it all to the three of you,’ she said, pointing to judges Melissa Leong, Andy Allen and Jock Zonfrillo, before paying homage to her competitor: ‘And I owe it to this little lady.

‘Being able to reconnect with Laura after so many years has been just magic for me. She’s just incredible. She’s just… so amazing.’

As Emelia spoke, Laura, who was nursing a badly burned hand sustained during the competition, broke down in bitter tears.

‘I can’t speak, I can’t speak,’ she gasped, before managing to compose herself.

‘I’m pretty gutted. I’m not gonna lie. But, I’m so proud of her. She is amazing and she deserves this so much. Like, she’s come so far. To watch her grow has been amazing,’ Laura said.

‘To reconnect with her has been amazing. To eat her food has been amazing. She really deserves this. She really, really does.’

There was good news for Laura, however, as she was gifted $30,000 to help grow her business. meanwhile, Emelia walked away with $250,000.
