Married At First Sight star Hayley Vernon has been slammed by fans for saying she won’t be wearing a mask during the coronavirus pandemic.
On Monday, the 33-year-old, who is based in Melbourne, criticised Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, for making masks mandatory and told others to ‘stand up for their rights’.
‘Why are we wearing masks? Us people who are healthy.. This as you said ‘is about curbing behaviour’. I’ll be dammed if you are going to curb anything about me,’ she wrote on Instagram.

She continued:’You are a walking talking oxymoron. I am woke I will not be wearing a mask. MELBOURNE AND AUSTRALIANS STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS.. this is not the time to comply.’
Fans hit back, claiming Hayley is being ‘ignorant’ and ‘selfish’ as masks can prevent passing the virus onto others.
‘Wow, this is the definition of ignorance. Shame on you for using your platform to act like a spoilt brat and spread such absurdity,’ one person wrote.

‘It’s not all about you. Stop trying to make something that isn’t about you, about you. If it’s mandatory then f**king do it, stop your complaining and suck it up. The masks are there to prevent it spreading,’ another said.

‘You’re doing it to protect others. The thing is now, people can be asymptomatic with the virus.. meaning you don’t even know u have it. Which is why wearing a mask CAN help prevent passing the virus onto others,’ one person said.
‘It doesn’t matter how healthy and fit you are you can get struck down by covid. They are trying to keep us safe.Even if you think you’ll be ok, what if you are asymptomatic and you give it to someone and they die??’ one wrote.

On Sunday, Premier Daniel Andrews announced face masks will become mandatory across Melbourne and Mitchell Shire in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19 across the city.
Those who disobey the new government directive to wear masks outside the home – effective from 11.59pm on Wednesday – will face a $200 fine.
The drastic new measures were announced as the state recorded another 363 cases and three more deaths from the infectious respiratory disease on Sunday.
NSW Deputy Chief Health Officer Jeremy McAnulty has also followed the lead, and is advising all residents wear masks and avoid public transport.
Wearing a face mask can help with preventing the spread of coronavirus as it limits infections spread by airborne transmission.
