Today host Karl Stefanovic makes a cringeworthy dad joke about Kanye West’s presidential campaign – leaving Nine’s U.S. correspondent speechless

Kanye West shocked the world when he announced he’d be running for president of the United States earlier this month.

And on Monday, Karl Stefanovic made a cringe-worthy joke while discussing the 43-year-old rapper’s presidential campaign on Channel Nine’s Today show.

The news segment started off with the father-of-four asking US correspondent Tim Arvier for an update on Kanye’s rally in South Carolina.

‘Kanye West is right now addressing voters in South Carolina as he kicks off his bid to become President of the United States of America. Tim, what did he have to say?’

Tim went on to say the American rapper has ‘outlined policies such as free marijuana if he won the election, talking a lot about god and religion too before breaking down in tears while discussing his family’.

He added: ‘What will be interesting to see is if he does continue with his campaign is if he does manage to take away votes from Donald Trump or Joe Biden.’

Karl then said: ‘No one man should have all that power, Timmy. Do you know what I’m saying?’

Tim stared at the camera blankly for several moments before laughing and replying with ‘yes’.

Karl then burst into laughter and admitted he didn’t wasn’t sure where he’d heard the expression, saying: ‘It’s a song I think. I’ve heard it somewhere!’

On July 4th, Kanye announced on Twitter that he would be running for president in November.

‘We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future,’ he tweeted with the hashtag #2020VISION. ‘I am running for president of the United States!’

On Sunday, Kanye held his first campaign event in South Carolina, wearing a bullet-proof vest and with 2020 shaved into his hair.

‘I don’t give a f*** if I win the presidency or not,’ he said. ‘There are homeless people in front of the Gucci store. I care about these things. And I am in service of God.’
