The stars who turned down The Masked Singer: Radio host speaks out

The stars who turned down The Masked Singer: A former politician and radio host claim they were approached by the hit Channel 10 show

The Masked Singer Australia has so far revealed three of the characters who will be performing in season two, which begins filming shortly.

But two big names revealed on Thursday they’d been approached to take part in the hit Channel 10 show, but turned down the offer.

Former politician Christopher Pyne told Triple M Hot Breakfast hosts Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy that he’d been asked to join cast.

He said: ‘What you probably don’t know… is that I was asked to do The Masked Singer this year. And I came very close to saying yes.’

McGuire, who is the president of the Collingwood Football Club, then blurted out: ‘I was as well!’

When asked by Pyne what costume would have picked, McGuire said: ‘I don’t know, but I might have worn the Collingwood Magpie mascot or something out there.

‘But you and I, we could have had a duet!’

‘You couldn’t have worn the jail bar, that’s against the law,’ the former defence minister replied, referring to Collingwood’s black and white striped colours.

Eddie also told the Herald Sun that he was ‘flattered’ by the offer, but said: ‘It’s a bit like my football career; all I lacked was ability.’

The revelations come after the first three masked singers were revealed this week: the Dragonfly, Frillneck and Echidna.

Channel 10 also announced on Thursday that comedian Urzila Carlson would replace Lindsay Lohan as a judge – two weeks after it was revealed that the American actress would unable to return for season two due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions.

A network spokesperson said: ‘It’s Urzila Carlson! The hilarious comedian is joining the guessing panel alongside Dave Hughes, Jackie O and Dannii Minogue! Can she crack the clues and figure out who’s under the masks?’

Filming for season two was scheduled to begin filming this month in Melbourne, but has been delayed because of the escalating pandemic.

An exact air date for the show has yet to be confirmed by Channel 10.
