Most popular properties for sale since stamp duty cut revealed

The most viewed properties for sale online since the stamp duty announcement last week have been revealed exclusively to MailOnline Property and This is Money.

All 10 of the most popular homes for sale on property website Zoopla cost between £300,000 and £500,000.

This is the price bracket where the greatest savings – up to £15,000 – can be made following the cut in stamp duty.

The Chancellor announced in the mini-budget last week that he would cut stamp duty on main homes costing up to £500,000.

The scheme will also last for more than eight months, with the new thresholds applying until March 31 next year.

The savings are lower for first-time buyers due to the stamp duty relief already in place for them.

They were already paying no tax up to £300,000 and 5 per cent on the amount from £300,001 to £500,000.

Zoopla said the strongest rise in demand was for homes with an asking price of between the £300,000 and £500,000.

Demand rose 52 per cent on the afternoon that followed the cut on 8 July, compared to the previous four-week average.

The most viewed homes are spread across England and Wales, including London and Swansea.

Top of the list is a property on the coast in Lancashire, in the town of Fleetwood. The five-bedroom period property has views of the Irish Sea and is on the market for £430,000.

Nine out of 10 of the most viewed properties were listed on Zoopla since the mini-budget.

It suggests that sellers have been motivated to bring their properties to market and are aiming to make the most of the buyer demand, Zoopla said.

Gráinne Gilmore, of Zoopla, said: ‘The stamp duty announcement certainly boosted demand in some areas – demand levels were already elevated because of the post-lockdown bounceback.

‘The increase in buyer interest has been particularly evident in price brackets where homemovers and first-time buyers can benefit from some of the largest savings owing to this eight month property tax holiday.

‘As can be seen from the most-viewed properties in this list, vendors putting their homes forward for sale are in a good position to take advantage of the current market conditions.’
