Ellen DeGeneres mourns the death of her dog Wolf: ‘He brought us so much love and joy’

Ellen DeGeneres is dealing with the death of her beloved dog Wolf.

The talk show hostess took to Instagram to share the sad news on Thursday. 

She posted a special photo of the pooch with her and wife Portia De Rossi on their wedding day as a tribute.

It was paired with a touching caption that said ‘Last night we had to say goodbye to our dog Wolf.

It went on: ‘He brought us so much love and joy. I hope we did the same for him.’

Ellen is a huge animal lover. She and wife Portia have three other dogs: Wallis, Augie, and Kid. They also own several horses.

It’s been a sad year in pets for DeGeneres. Back in January Ellen dealt with the death of her cat Charlie.

‘We had to say goodbye to Charlie today. She was an amazing cat and gave us so much love,’ Ellen wrote at the time. 

‘One of the hardest decisions to make but so glad we could end her suffering.’

Ellen once joked about having a favorite pet in  an interview with Good Housekeeping, telling the magazine:  ‘I have three dogs (Wolf, Augie and Kid) and three cats (Charlie, George and Chairman).

Ellen’s passion for animals has been lifelong.

‘I’ve always loved animals since I can remember and always thought someday I would work with them in some way,’ she once told People, adding how she later realized the heartbreak that goes into caring for animals.
