Media doyenne Deborah Hutton has revealed why she never had children of her own.

‘I definitely wanted children,’ Deborah told this month’s issue of Australia’s Women’s Weekly.

The former model had the opportunity to have children with celebrity agent Harry M. Miller, with whom she was in a long-term relationship in the 1980s.

‘I didn’t want to be part of the dynasty, because that would have been his fourth wife and he would have had his sixth child. He was loving, but he was a father at a distance until they got old enough so he could have conversation,’ she said.

Harry died in 2018 at the age of 84, after being diagnosed with vascular dementia years earlier.

‘He was an amazing man. It’s hard when you’ve spent over a decade with someone and it was such an incredible time in my life. I learnt a lot from him and I often hear his voice in my head,’ she said.

Deborah herself came from a family of divorce, and lived with her mother from an early age while her two brothers went to live with their father.

She added: ‘I was never going to have kids on my own. I saw what my mother went through. Too bloody hard!’
