A collapsing townhouse on one of London‘s most cosmopolitan streets has gone on the market for £400,000.
Potential buyers can bag themselves a derelict four-storey, five-bedroom terraced house which has lain empty for 30 years on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton.
Agents are expecting bids for the property to begin at just under half a million, despite all of the house’s windows being either smashed or boarded up, the doorway being blocked by a metal grill and the partially falling down ground floor being held up by scaffolding.
Former British prime minister Sir John Major lived on the road in a flat at 144 Coldharbour Lane between 1955 and 1959.

The street was called ‘the most dangerous street’ in Brixton. In an article for the London Evening Standard in 2003, journalist David Cohen wrote: ‘It is not for nothing that Coldharbour Lane has a reputation as the most dangerous street in the most dangerous borough of London.’

Auction House London, which is putting the unorthodox house up for sale is hoping it will be snapped up by eager developers keen to turn a penny by converting the multi-storey property, which is described as being in ‘shell condition’, into luxury flats.
Director of Auction House London Andrew Binstock said: ‘The property has been empty for approximately 30 years and it requires a full programme of works.
‘It comprises a mid-terrace house arranged over lower ground and three upper floors.
