Driver is arrested ‘after he stabbed a 26-year-old passenger in another car in M5 attack’

A 42-year-old man has been arrested after a car passenger was stabbed in a row between the occupants of two vehicles near the M5 motorway.

Police say the suspect is in custody on suspicion of wounding with intent after a 26-year-old man suffered stab injuries on Friday night.

On Saturday, Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: ‘Officers have made an arrest in connection with a stabbing incident which happened on the southbound slip-road of the M5 at junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare) on Friday night. 

‘A 42-year-old man from Birmingham has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and is now in custody for questioning.

‘A 26-year-old man remains in hospital undergoing treatment for injuries which are not life-threatening.

‘Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.’

Emergency services had been called to the slip-road at around 10.10pm on Friday.

A police statement earlier on Saturday said: ‘The victim was a passenger in a car which had just exited the M5 at this junction and was at a set of traffic lights. A dispute then ensued with the driver of another car, following which the victim was stabbed.
