Katy Perry reveals the struggles of pregnancy and she nears her due date

She’s not exactly taking it easy in her pregnancy, promoting a new album just weeks before she’s due to give birth.

And Katy Perry has admitted she’s been struggling with some final trimester symptoms as she nears her due date.

Making a string of UK radio call ins on Friday morning to promote her upcoming album Smile, Katy said she is ‘waddling like a duck’ as she awaits the arrival of her daughter with fiancé Orlando Bloom.

Speaking to on Hits Radio Breakfast, the singer said she’s embracing everything that pregnancy has bought, including cravings.   

‘I am waddling like a duck! I’m breathing heavily, I’m a full-on mouth-breather. And um yeah, it’s loud and obnoxious and, oh my God, I just eat so much flavoured ice! It’s like put all the ice in my mouth, right now,’ she laughed.

Katy also revealed the sweet nickname she has given to her baby girl, confessing: ‘I call her Kicky Perry sometimes. I love a pun but I’m really active right now and, you know, my doctors are like, “Stay active, you’re good to go, girl!” And so I’ve been dancing, I’ve been singing a lot.’ 

The 35-year-old singer also said she is grateful Orlando – who also has Flynn, nine, with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr – has parenting experience, especially when they went baby shopping the other day.

‘The good thing is that he has a kid that’s nine. And he’s been through it. So when we were going to pick out strollers, he knew exactly the stroller. And like, some of the strollers are very chic, they’ve got leather handles and blah, blah, blah.’

‘And I was like really drawn to them right? And he’s like, “No, let me show you what the stroller is. It’s this one that you pick up in the middle and it collapses and it’s like, Bang, bang, it’s like an umbrella.”‘

‘I was like, “Oh my God, I’m so grateful that you know this, ’cause I would have gotten some, you know, large hunky thing! and that is avoidable because he’s already had a test run so, I’m grateful for that.’

‘It was very cute, like he was a famous person who’s like, “Here’s how you do it, you just pick it up from the middle and you just go Wham.” I’m like, “I’m so turned on right now!”‘

Speaking to Heart Radio earlier in the morning, Katy also quipped she was really excited to see what Orlando was getting her for a push present, delcaring: ‘Give me the present, give me the bag! You know the bag I’m talking about! I want the bag!’

She also joked that the thing she is most looking forward to about parenthood is ‘my belly button going back’ after admitting ‘it’s definitely one of those things when you’re not pregnant that if you observe other pregnant women you’re just like “I just hope my belly button stays where it’s at and it doesn’t pop, I really hope I don’t look like that”‘. 

Katy announced this week that she will release her new album ‘Smile’ on August 14th, after dropping a single of the same name on Friday.

The singer took to her Instagram account to reveal the album artwork, which features her wearing a big red clown nose while looking glum, and revealed she penned the title track while going through ‘one of the darkest periods of [her] life’. 

She wrote: ‘Step right up! Step right up! KP5 is called #SMILE I wrote the title track from the album when I was coming through one of the darkest periods of my life and had lost my smile.’

‘This whole album is my journey towards the light – with stories of resilience, hope, and love.’
