Katy Perry is asked if the rumour is true that she and on-again pal Taylor Swift are ninth cousins

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift ‘fight like cousins’.

The Smile hitmaker – who has buried the hatchet with the Shake It Off singer after a long feud – has joked about her relationship with her former rival.

‘Well, we fight like cousins,’ said the pregnant star when asked on Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp about the wild rumour floating around on the web that they are ninth cousins.

Sian Welby brought up the wild rumour that Katy might be Taylor’s cousin.

‘I read somewhere that your baby might have a very famous aunt,’ said Sian. ‘Apparently, you and Taylor Swift are ninth cousins.’ 

Perry made the quip about fighting like cousins with the 1989 hitmaker, then said she had not heard the rumour.

But she joked she would consider getting a DNA test with Swift.

Her feud with Taylor Swift reportedly began in 2014 after Katy allegedly took dancers away from Taylor. 

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Katy insisted she and Taylor ‘text a lot.’

The Dark Hors’ hitmaker said: ‘Well, we don’t have a very close relationship because we are very busy, but we text a lot.’

And the mother-to-be has heaped praise on Taylor for her Miss Americana documentary and her ‘vulnerability’.

She added: ‘I was impressed by her documentary [Miss Americana] because I saw some self-awareness starting to happen and I saw a lot of vulnerability. 

‘I was really excited for her to be able to show that to the world: that things aren’t perfect, they don’t have to be and it’s more beautiful when they aren’t. 

‘Even though it was difficult, it was important to make that appearance in the music video because people want people to look up to. 

‘We wanted it to be an example of unity. Forgiveness is important. It’s so powerful. If you can forgive your enemy, that’s amazing. As difficult as it is!’

And Taylor previously revealed her and Katy blamed their zodiac signs for their feud.

She explained: ‘Katy and I were talking about our signs … of course we were … we were talking about our signs because we had this really, really long talk when we were reconnecting and stuff. And I remember in the long talk, she was like, “If we had one glass of white wine right now, we’d both be crying.”

‘Because we were drinking tea. We’ve had some really good conversations. We were talking about how we’ve had miscommunications with people in the past, not even specifically with each other. 

‘She’s like, “I’m a Scorpio. Scorpios just strike when they feel threatened.” And I was like, “Well, I’m an archer [Sagittarius]. We literally stand back, assess the situation, process how we feel about it, raise a bow, pull it back, and fire.” So it’s a completely different way of processing pain, confusion, misconception.’

Also this week Perry returned to her whimsical roots as a glamorous, sad clown on the cover of her upcoming album, Smile, which she debuted on Instagram.

The popstar said the new album is about her ‘journey towards the light’ and revealed that the title track was penned during one of the ‘darkest’ times in her life. 

All week Katy had been teasing her new album cover with virtual circus games for her fans to play online.

Katy channeled a retro circus vibe for her new album art and she began her social media caption: ‘step right up! step right up!’

‘KP5 is called #SMILE,’ the expectant mother wrote along with a circus emoji. Smile is Perry’s fifth studio album, hence the ‘KP5’.

The cover features the popstar as a sad clown in a billowy long sleeve silken navy and champagne checked top with a large neck ruffle that mimicked the print of a circus tent. 

Katy’s candy-floss blonde curls have a slight pale pink tint and were piled up on her head. 

She is gazing at the camera in the snap with sad, puppy-dog eyes framed by long fluttery eyelashes and wearing a red clown nose.

Katy’s matching crimson lips were painted in a way to accent her frown and she sits with her head in her hands, cocked to one side in a sort-of defeated stance. 

‘I wrote the title track from the album when I was coming through one of the darkest periods of my life and had lost my smile,’ she wrote in her post. 

Adding: ‘This whole album is my journey towards the light – with stories of resilience, hope, and love.’

The titular track off of her fifth album streams at midnight on Friday.   

Last week, the hunk gushed about how ‘excited’ he is to welcome his first daughter on Good Morning America. 

‘It’s a magical time, you know, when an angel pops into the planet, which is what it feels like for me,’ the Lord Of The Rings dreamboat said.

He eagerly anticipates ‘being present’ for Katy and the baby and is ‘looking forward to those very late nights’ as well as ‘doing the bottle thing.’ 

Katy’s new album, Smile, drops August 14 but is already available for pre-order.
