This year’s Ryder Cup is set to be postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to reports.
The biennial golf tournament between a European team and the United States is due to be held between September 25 and 27 at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.
But, according to ESPN, it will be delayed and will take place in the same time frame next year. The 2022 edition to be held in Rome will also be pushed back by 12 months.

With fans unlikely to be able to attend the Ryder Cup if it went ahead this year due to the current restrictions in place caused by Covid-19, several prominent players, including world number one Rory McIlroy, have urged officials to postpone it.
World number one McIlroy said: ‘A Ryder Cup without fans is not a Ryder Cup.
‘It wouldn’t be a great spectacle, there’d be no atmosphere, so if it came to whether they had to choose between not playing the event or playing it without fans, I would say just delay it a year and play it in 2021.
“Obviously it would be better for the Europeans to play without fans because we wouldn’t have to deal with some of the stuff you have to put up with, but at the same time it’s not a Ryder Cup.’

Europe are the current holders of the Ryder Cup, having beaten the United States 17.5-10.5 at Le Golf National in Paris in 2018.
The golf season has been completely ravaged by the pandemic with the Charles Schwab Challenge the first PGA tournament of the campaign taking place in June.
Three of this year’s four golf majors have been postponed, while The Open Championship has been cancelled.
