She had a small role on Coronation Street 51 years ago before moving on to playing Chrissy Plummer in Man About the House.

But Paula Wilcox is set to visit the Rovers Return once again in a much larger role.

The actress, 70, is coming back to Coronation Street this month as Elaine, a former girlfriend of Geoff Metcalfe (played by Ian Bartholomew, 65) who has been torturing his wife Yasmeen (played by Shelley King, 64) for months.

Comeback: Paula Wilcox is set to return to Coronation Street after 51 years this month as Geoff Metcalfe’s former lover – but can she save Yasmeen from a stint in prison?

Elaine may be set to testify in court when Yasmeen, who is currently in prison, goes on trial for attacking Geoff after snapping under the stress of his constant abuse.

A TV source told The Sun: ‘If Yasmeen pursues the defence that she snapped after endless cruelty at the hands of Geoff, then Elaine’s testimony could prove invaluable.

‘But as this is Corrie it won’t be plain sailing, there’ll be quite a few twists and turns along the way.

‘Paula is only making a guest appearance for a few weeks but it’s a role she’ll relish sinking her teeth into.’

While Yasmeen is stuck in prison, Geoff’s abusive ways are currently being uncovered by his daughter-in-law Sally Metcalfe (played by Sally Dyvenor, 57).

On the show Sally is a survivor of domestic abuse so is particularly outraged to find out that her father-in-law is an abuser.
