Bonnie Pointer’s death certificate reveals the Pointer Sisters member died of cardiac arrest

Bonnie Pointer of The Pointer Sisters died from going into cardiac arrest, her death certificate reveals.

Bonnie, one of the two founding members of the group, died June 8 at age 69.

The death certificate, obtained by TMZ, also indicates that the singer had been suffering from liver disease for about a decade prior to her death.

The document specifies that Bonnie died of cardiopulmonary arrest at 3:37 a.m.

It also notes that she was divorced, presumably from her husband, Motown producer Jeffrey Bowen, whom she married in 1978.

In 2014, Bonnie filed for divorce after a decade of the two being separated, which was finalized two years later.   

Her sister Anita originally confirmed the news of her death to TMZ.

‘It is with great sadness that I have to announce to the fans of The Pointer Sisters that my sister, Bonnie died this morning,’ Anita told the outlet. ‘Our family is devastated, on behalf of my siblings and I and the entire Pointer family, we ask for your prayers at this time.’

The statement continued: ‘Bonnie was my best friend and we talked every day, we never had a fight in our life, I already miss her and I will see her again one day.’

The Grammy-winning singer’s career began in 1969 when she and her sister June began their band as a duo.

Later came their sisters Anita then Ruth.

They received their vocal training at their father’s church in West Oakland, California, and went on to win three Grammy Awards as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994.

Their first hit was Yes We Can, then came the song Fairytale. 

Bonnie left The Pointer Sisters in 1977 for a solo career that produced the hit disco cover of the song Heaven Must Have Sent You.

The Pointer Sisters saw their biggest success after Bonnie left the band. 

The group achieved its greatest commercial success as a trio during the n the Eighties they had the songs Jump (For My Love) and Automatic.

Bonnie’s youngest sister June died in 2006 at the age of 52.

Two of her sisters, Ruth and Anita, and two brothers, Aaron and Fritz, were at her side at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica when she died.
