Bachelor couple Laura Byrne and Matty ‘J’ Johnson have revealed that they both have insecurities about their skin. 

The engaged pair, who share one-year-old daughter Marlie-Mae, discussed their concerns candidly with Body and Soul magazine this week, admitting that they’ve struggled to feel confident at times. 

Matty, 32, says that he suffered from acne as a teenager and hated looking in the mirror at times.

He said: ‘I remember how much it sucked looking in the mirror. The first thing you see when you meet someone is their face. 

‘So when you have really bad acne and you talk to someone, all you can think is, ‘I bet you’re looking at my acne.”

Laura, 33, who suffers from the skin condition Melasma, says she feels the same way as her fiance.

‘You’re so right when you say you think people are looking at you,’ the accessories designer agreed. 

‘I have pigmentation, which came out really bad when I was pregnant, and it made me so self-conscious to the point where, when I had to meet new people, I felt like I had to explain it. 

‘Why do I feel like I have to do that? It’s my face. I can’t control that,’ she added. 

Last year, in a detailed Instagram post, Laura shared a makeup-free photo of her skin, and spoke about how the skin condition affected her during pregnancy, causing severe hyperpigmentation on her face.

‘When I was pregnant I posted a fair bit about my melasma. I’ve always had pigmentation, but pregnancy really set that baby a light,’ she explained.

 Laura went on to encourage women to accept their flaws and to not always compare themselves to other women on social media. 

‘This is just a reminder that most people you follow on Instagram don’t actually have perfect skin, or perfect butts or perfect boobs that defy gravity,’ she wrote. 

‘If you or someone you love has Melasma – I just want you to know that you look amazing girlfriend.’
