Kelly Clarkson covers It’s Quiet Uptown from Hamilton before the Broadway sensation arrives on Disney Plus
With just hours left before the filmed recording of a Hamilton production with the original cast debuts on Disney Plus, Kelly Clarkson covered one of its hit songs.
During Thursday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 38-year-old singer/host belted out It’s Quiet Uptown from Hamilton.
It’s become a tradition on her show to perform a different cover song on each episode, though this song she has a bit of history with.

Clarkson had previously sung It’s Quiet Uptown on the Hamilton Mixtape, a 2016 album which featured famous singers covering the Broadway sensation’s hit songs.
It’s Quiet Uptown was one of the first two singles released ahead of the full album, along with The Roots’ My Shot.
The Hamilton Mixtape also features performances from Nas, Aloe Blacc, Usher, Sia, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, John Legend, Wiz Khalifa and Chance the Rapper.

Fans who have never seen the Broadway production, or any of the touring productions around the world will be able to see Hamilton on Friday through the Disney Plus streaming service.
The film is comprised of footage shot at three different Broadway shows in 2016, featuring the original cast including writer/star Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The original cast also includes Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette and Jonathan Groff as King George III.

Clarkson’s performance comes just days after she picked up a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host in her first season of the show.
Since the show was ‘virtual’ this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Clarkson tweeted out to her fans that she won.
‘OH MY GOSH!!!!!! What is happening?!!!! This is amazing!!! Thank y’all so much!!! And a MAJOR thank you to my entire crew that really is the reason I won!!! I can’t wait to celebrate with our whole crew when humans can congregate again!! This calls for a PARTY!!!!’ Clarkson said.

She also surprised fans by thanking her estranged husband Brandon Blackstock, who she filed for divorce from just two weeks earlier.
