Kelly’s mother Doris passed away at age 66 in late 2014 from a heart attack, just three weeks after the singer welcomed her first child, son Titan, now five, with husband Tim Weatherspoon.

In May 2017, Kelly spoke candidly about the tragic passing of her mother in an interview with Australian Who magazine.

‘It just came out of nowhere,’ the Destiny’s Child star recalled. ‘I remember when they pulled the plug.’

Kelly told Andy: 'I told you my mother signed, but I wish I would have learned more. Every time I see you sign, and you do it with so much passion as she did, so it's awesome'

‘It was hard because I’d just watched my son come into this world and I actually watched her go.’

Kelly added that there is ‘not a day that goes by that I don’t think of her’.
