Lauryn Goodman urges government to help cash-strapped freelance workers amid lockdown

Lauryn Goodman has thrown her support behind a new campaign to raise awareness of the plight of the nation’s freelance workers amid the COVID-19 lockdown.

The influencer, 29, took to her Instagram account on Wednesday evening to push for change, as millions of self-employed workers have yet to receive financial aid.

Sharing a snap of herself holding up a handwritten sign which read ‘#gapsinsupport’, she wrote: ‘I am standing up for the #forgottenfreelancers. I work with & the 3-5 million taxpayers who’ve had no work & no help from gov UK for almost 4 months.

Lauryn counted herself among a number of public figures who took to social media in support of the campaign on Thursday, as businesses ease out of lockdown.

Earlier this month, MPs called on the government to bail out the ‘forgotten million’ people locked out of coronavirus support packages.

Ministers must do more to fulfil its promise of ‘doing whatever it takes’ to protect people and businesses, according to an interim report by the Treasury select committee.

Among those who ‘continue to endure financial hardship’ are the newly employed, freelancers, self-employed people earning over £50,000, and directors of firms who take their income as dividends.

The committee’s chairman Mel Stride MP said: ‘Well over a million people…have lost livelihoods while being locked down and locked out of the main support programmes.

‘If it is to be fair and completely fulfil its promise of doing whatever it takes, the Government should urgently enact our recommendations.’

Away from lending her support to the campaign, Lauryn has her hands full raising her two-month-old baby. And on Sunday, she took a swipe at ex Kyle Walker in an impassioned Father’s Day post.

Lauryn reflected on life as a single mother, as she discussed the pressure she feels raising a baby and feeling grateful for her sister’s fiancé being a positive male role model in her child’s life.

The star shares her two-month-old baby – whose name and gender has not been revealed – with Kyle, who she struck up a brief romance with after he split from his partner of 10 years, Annie Kilner.

This is Kyle’s fourth child, he shares sons Roman, Riaan and Reign with his ex Annie, who he reportedly proposed to last week in a bid to win her back.

Lauryn and her newborn have been isolating with her sister Chloe and her fiancé Grant Hall, who themselves welcomed a baby girl last month.

She began her post, by saying: ‘Happy Fathers Day to all you wonderful Fathers, single dads we praise you and single Mothers for fulfilling both roles.

‘I think you are all so amazing. It can be tough at times, but persevere, you are doing the most wonderful job.

‘They say “Any woman can be a mother, but it takes a bad a** mum to be a father too.” Playing both roles means you get double the love and double the joy, see this as a positive.

‘In fact, I see my role as a blessing in disguise as I would rather my baby grow up around positive role models, who are selfless. That have morales, integrity and principles.’

Lauryn went on to thank Grant for being a positive influence for her child, saying: ‘My baby, you are so lucky to have your uncle @hally91 around who works so hard & is nothing but a gentleman.

‘I am so happy you have him as someone to look up to while growing up. I have seen how he has taken to fatherhood like a duck to water, how he has loved and supported my sister @chloe__goodman through everything. He will teach you everything there is to be a real person.

‘To know I am solely responsible for bringing my baby up makes me work so much harder. I will bring you up with love, respect and strength in a home with wonderful family values.’

Lauryn then appeared to take a swipe at her ex Kyle, as she discussed her baby inheriting ‘weakness’.

She stated: ‘You will be brought up to be strong where you make your own decisions and you don’t let anyone influence or control you, because being weak is an inherited sign I don’t wish you to have.

‘I am so proud of you already and we’ve got this. You are one special bubba who is so beautiful, you fill me with such love everyday. Our journey has just began.’

She concluded: ‘Happy Fathers Day to everyone once again. Have a lovely day with your loved ones. P.S to all you single mums … Keep shining you are doing amazing!’

Last month, Lauryn was met with drama when England footballer Kyle’s furious ex Annie, 27, appeared to announce her baby’s gender.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, the former WAG wrote: ‘FYI… it’s a BOY!’.

The sportsman, 29, was targeted by Annie, who posted a thinly-veiled dig on Instagram, that read: ‘A man who disrespects a loyal woman deserves a heartless hoe.’

Annie was left embittered when Kyle allegedly told her about Lauryn and the baby over the phone – having dated Lauryn last summer.

He and Annie had been together for 10 years before splitting after his affair with Ex On The Beach star Laura Brown in April 2019.

Lauryn took to Instagram to post a reaction to Annie’s remark, writing: ‘This is harassment. I’ve just had a newborn baby and I’m dealing with this on a Sunday morning!’
