America’s Got Talent: Sofia Vergara stumbles into seats after getting freaked out by Chef Boy Bonez

Sofia Vergara fell backward into the crowd while fleeing contestant Chef Boy Bonez on Tuesday’s episode of America’s Got Talent on NBC.

The 47-year-old new judge freaked out when the Los Angeles rapper bugged his eyeballs all the way out while performing his rhymes.

Sofia pressed her red X button against the act and when Chef Boy Bonez came near the judges’ table she bolted and stumbled into seated audience members. 

‘I’ve never seen anything more horrible!’ Sofia cried afterward. ‘You’re gonna hurt yourself.’

The episode also showed Heidi Klum, 47, phoning in from her sickbed.  

The 47-year-old veteran judge missed show tapings in March after developing symptoms similar to coronavirus, which led producers to send her home and film some auditions without her.

Although she later tested negative, it was clear from her brief appearance on the show that she had been horribly sick with the fever and sore throat that led to their concern.

The model’s eyes were drawn, and her hair mussed as she lay back against pillows in bed, trying to respond to questions from fellow judge Howie Mandel, 64.

‘How are you feeling physically?’ he asked Heidi on a phone video chat, during a break from taping.

‘I’m OK,’ Heidi said weakly, looking exhausted in her pajamas. ‘I have everything.’

Howie tried to cheer Heidi up by saying that he always isolated himself from his family when he was sick, even pre-pandemic.

‘Is there anything?’ he went on. ‘I feel like we should do something.’

‘No, I just wanted to say hi,’ Heidi protested, sniffling in her pajamas.

Show host Terry Crews, 51, earlier shared that Heidi was feeling ‘under the weather,’ though he did not go into detail.

‘I miss you Heidi,’ Howie lamented then. ‘I wish you were here to talk to me.’

Sofia laughingly quipped, ‘She doesn’t talk to you that much, either.’

Half an hour into the show, it was announced that former Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet, 48, would be a guest judge in Heidi’s stead.

Sofia, his co-star on the ABC hit, which ran from 2009 to 2020, reached out to him after Heidi fell ill.

‘My new family and my old family together,’ the actress raved, as Eric assumed his seat beside her for auditions.

‘I can’t wait to see what America’s got tonight!’ he said, calling himself ‘pumped.’

Eric then tested the ‘X’ buzzer in front of him, and yelled ‘Jiminy Christmas!’ as it went off.

The first performer through was Annie, a 12-year-old singer from Australia, who had everyone clapping and cheering for her incredible version of Tones and I’s Dance Monkey.

‘I think this is what you’re meant to do in your life,’ Sofia told her. ‘Howdie, what do you think?’

Howie laughed at Sofia’s mispronunciation of his name, and told Annie: ‘It’s so stunning, watching you, listening to you. You’re a great performer. You’re a star.’

Shaquira McGrath, a 26-year-old singer from Kennesaw, Georgia, overcame lifelong insecurities about her looks to go up and belt out Gretchen Wilson’s Redneck Woman.

She sobbed at the crowd’s enthusiastic response, and judge Simon Cowell, 60, told her, ‘You’ve got a genuinely great, great voice. A great personality. And people are going to root for you.’

Xtreme Dance Force, a group of teen boys from Napierville, Illinois, wowed the audience with their synchronized moves to club hits by Usher, Redfoo and Jason Derulo.

Simon liked it so much he gave them ‘a million percent yes,’ saying he’d love it if they could sing.

Asked for her vote, Sofia added a yes, while Howie said no, leaving Eric to break the tie.

‘My first moment on America’s Got Talent, it’s all up to me?’ he asked, then followed the crowd, saying, ‘This is your lucky day, because I will not squash a dream. It’s a yes from me.’

After Sofia voted no for Chef Boy Bonez, Eric was again forced to be a tie-breaker, and the rapper went through.

‘How is that gonna get better?’ Sofia asked her pal. ‘What else is he gonna pop out?’

Winston Fuenmayor, a 21-year-old magician from Venezuela, next showed off his astounding sleight-of-hand, producing a steady stream of cards from every part of his body.

‘I think you’re just born to do this,’ Simon told Winston, giving him a ‘big yes.’ ‘Your showmanship is off the charts, [and] I can see you headlining a big show in Vegas.’

Lewis Shilvock, a 17-year-old dancer from Australia, also went through for his kinetic, acrobatic choreography to Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, which he completed in gold pants.

‘Right from the beginning, your charisma, your charm, was infectious,’ Eric told him, as Simon compared Lewis to the ballet-loving fictional character Billy Elliott.

The Bone Breakers, a contortionist dance troupe from Atlanta, had the crowd gasping with their routine, which unfurled to the strains of DJ Snake’s Taki Taki.

‘What I loved was it looked so painful, and the more painful it looked, the happier you were getting,’ Simon told the group, which hailed from Guinea-Conakry, West Africa.

Jesse Kramer, a 23-year-old singer from Nashville, then rocked a dramatic cover of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, which divided the judges, though they ultimately sent him through.

Ty Barnett, a fortysomething comedian from Chicago, also went through with his act about getting older, showing off the skills he’d acquired during his 18-year stand-up career.

Serban, a singer from Romania, immediately won fans with his buoyant spirit—he volunteered to take Simon to Goodwill for ‘colorful t-shirts’—but got X’d for his original song Conga Bonga.

‘I think Conga Bonga is honestly the worst song we’ve ever had on this show,’ Simon said.

Venezuelan bodybuilder Josefina Monasterio, 73, blew the crowd away with her fitness and her use of the word, ‘Pow!’ as she flexed her muscles next to a bare-chested Terry.

‘Sofia, you are actually amazing; I just don’t know what the act is,’ Simon said, rejecting her.

The episode’s last act was Alan Silva, a 37-year-old acrobat from Brazil, who had been bullied his whole life for his short stature and never performed in front of his wife and two kids.

As his little ones chanted ‘Go papa!’ backstage, Alan spun, dropped and flew around on aerial silks high above the crowd, mesmerizing and moving the judges.

‘Every possible emotion that can be elicited from one act, you have it all,’ Howie told him.

‘You are, without question, the best act we’ve seen all day long,’ Simon agreed.

A preview of next week’s AGT episode, shot without an audience to enforce coronavirus-related social distancing, found the judges admitting that auditions were about to get tougher.

America’s Got Talent returns next week on NBC.
