J.K. Simmons reveals he will return as J. Jonah Jameson in at least two more Marvel Studios movies

Superhero fans got quite the surprise in last year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, when J.K. Simmons returned as J. Jonah Jameson from the original Spider-Man trilogy directed by Sam Raimi, and he’s returning for more as well.

The 65-year-old actor appeared on The Jess Cagle Show, where he confirmed he has already filmed an appearance in a future project, with at least one more planned.

‘Well yeah, [I’ll be back as Jameson] that’s the short answer,’ Simmons told Jess Cagle, the editorial director of People and Entertainment Weekly.

‘There is a future for J. Jonah Jameson after a several-year hiatus. He showed up very briefly for those who were wise enough to stay through the credits of Far from Home,’ he added.

Simmons added, ‘There is one more JJJ appearance in the can, and from what I’m hearing there’s a plan for yet another. So hopefully JJJ will continue now and forever.’

The actor didn’t say what movie his next ‘JJJ appearance’ is in, but if it has already been filmed then there are two possibilities.

He could appear in Black Widow, which was originally slated for release on May 1 before it was pushed to November 6 due to COVID-19.

Another possibility could be The Eternals, which was slated for November 6 before being pushed to February 21, 2021.

He could also be appearing in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings which was filming before COVID-19 shut down production, or any of the numerous Marvel TV shows that were slated for the Disney Plus streaming service.

It has also been rumored that he could appear in Sony’s Morbius, a sequel to the 2018 Spider-Man spin-off Venom, though that has yet to be confirmed, and the planned project could be the untitled sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is currently slated for a November 2021 release.

J. Jonah Jameson was a fixture of the Spider-Man comics, the brash cigar-chomping publisher/editor-in-chief of The Daily Bugle.

Jameson was always against Spider-Man and his actions, ironic since he often employed Spidey himself, Peter Parker, as a photographer, without knowing the web-slinger’s true identity.

Simmons first portrayed Jameson in 2002’s Spider-Man, starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

He returned in 2004’s Spider-Man 2 and 2007’s Spider-Man 3, and his surprise return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man: Far From Home made him the first actor from the original Sony Pictures trilogy to be featured in the MCU.

Simmons is also one of just a handful of actors to have played characters from both Marvel and DC Comics, portraying the iconic Commissioner Gordon in 2017’s Justice League.
