Two of TV chef Rick Stein’s restaurants will not reopen after the coronavirus lockdown restrictions on the hospitality industry are lifted, it has been announced. 

The restaurants in Marlborough, Wiltshire, and Porthleven, Cornwall, will now be permanently closed.

The announcement was made on matching posts on the Facebook page of each restaurant.  

In the statement, it said: ‘We are very sad to announce that our restaurants in Marlborough and Porthleven will not be reopening.

‘We would like to thank all our customers who have supported us there over the years.

‘We hope you will find your way to our other restaurants where perhaps we can share fond memories of nights overlooking the romantic harbour at Porthleven or the classic perfection of the High Street in Marlborough.’

The Rick Stein Group will continue to run its other 12 restaurants, including in Barnes, London, Sandbanks, Dorset and Winchester, Hampshire.

The group’s flagship restaurant in Padstow, Cornwall, is also unaffected.

It also runs a collection of cafes, pubs and fish and chip shops in Cornwall.

The restaurants are taking bookings from July 4 – the date the government has currently set for the reopening of the hospitality industry and strict social distancing guidelines.
