Driver, 47, is arrested for drink-driving after three family members are run over and killed

A driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after three members of the same family were killed in rural Cumbria yesterday.
The 47-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of three counts of causing death by dangerous driving after the collision in Dalton-in-Furness.
Police said the Peugeot driver was a local man and only one vehicle was involved in the collision with the pedestrians on Abbey Road at about 2.30pm.

The driver suffered non-serious injuries. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene, with all three believed to be related.
Witness Ian Singleton, who saw paramedics trying to save the victims, said on Facebook: ‘I was literally five to ten minutes from being involved on my bike.
‘Turned up at the scene and it was like a horror movie and I’m still shook up at what I saw. My thoughts go out to the family involved.’
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: ‘The family are currently being supported by our family liaison officers.’
Emergency services attended the crash involving the Peugeot and the family who were on foot
Officers are now urging witnesses to call 101 referencing incident 124 of June 6, 2020, or contact T/PS 2265 Jack Stabler on [email protected].
Detectives are especially keen to speak with anybody who may have dashcam footage that captured the moments before and after the collision.
