A father and his two children who were killed while ‘out for a Father’s Day walk’ in Cumbria yesterday have been identified. 

Police have confirmed that the three pedestrians who died following the collision on Abbey Road, Dalton are Joshua James Flynn, 37, his son Coby-Jay Flynn, 15, and daughter Skylar Flynn, 12. The beloved family dog Troy also died.

The family were mowed down and killed by a suspected drink driver as they walked together on Father’s Day, it has been reported.

A 47-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and three counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police said the Peugeot driver was a local man and only one vehicle was involved in the collision with the pedestrians at about 2.30pm.

The driver suffered non-serious injuries. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene, with all three believed to be related.

The family are believed to have been out for a Father’s Day walk with their dog, which also died, when they were hit by the vehicle.

Witness Ian Singleton, who saw paramedics trying to save the victims, said on Facebook: ‘I was literally five to ten minutes from being involved on my bike.

‘Turned up at the scene and it was like a horror movie and I’m still shook up at what I saw. My thoughts go out to the family involved.’

One woman, who lived near the crash scene, said: ‘There’s an intense sadness. It’s horrific and it just feels heavy. We’re in disbelief.

‘Whenever something like that happened would be awful but I think the fact it was Father’s Day just multiplied everything.’

Her partner, who did not want to be named, said: ‘After I noticed the police I went to the top of the drive and looked down.

‘I didn’t see the driver of the car but the door to the car was open and it had hit a tree.

‘There were emergency vehicles everywhere, police and ambulances, and the fire brigade came down later.’

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: ‘The family are currently being supported by our family liaison officers.’

Officers are now urging witnesses to call 101 referencing incident 124 of June 6, 2020, or contact T/PS 2265 Jack Stabler on [email protected].

Detectives are especially keen to speak with anybody who may have dashcam footage that captured the moments before and after the collision.
