MasterChef’s Reynold Poernomo snacks behind the counter at KOI Dessert Bar

MasterChef Australia star Reynold Poernomo has been engulfed in a number of bruising off-screen scandals during the current season of Back to Win.

But the 26-year-old was back doing what he does best on Saturday, when he was spotted behind the counter of his Koi Dessert Bar, Sydney enjoying a nibble.

Reynold appeared to be the star attraction at the Chippendale eatery as he greeted fans and customers while serving behind the counter.

The chef appeared to snack on culinary delights while behind the counter, while clearly working up a sweat during peak service time.

At one point he appeared to surprise a fan of the show, who looked in disbelief as she was served by Reynold.

The TV star was affable and wore a black crew neck T-shirt along with a cap which he wore backwards. He also wore an olive green apron.

Reynold has been engulfed in a number of high-profile scandals recently, including a family connection to the show.

It was revealed earlier this week that Reynold’s brother Arnold actually works as a judge on the Indonesian version of the cooking series.

Arnold has been a judge on the show since 2013, appearing first as a guest on the second season, before returning as a permanent judge for the following seasons.

Posting in an online forum, Reynold suggested gay people should be ‘captured and put on an island’ so that straight people ‘will be happy’.

Reynold made the homophobic claims in online bodybuilding forums in 2014, just months before appearing in season seven of MasterChef.

‘I wish the world made a united decision where they will capture all gay people and put them on a remote island full of gays, that way straight ppl (people) will be happy and the freaks can go on and f**k themselves,’ the then 20-year-old wrote.

In a statement to Daily Mail Australia through Channel 10, Reynold said he was now ‘deeply ashamed’ of the comments and is ‘not the person I was back then’.

‘I would like to offer my sincere and deepest apologies for the comments that I made in 2014. I am ashamed of these comments and I regret them immensely,’ he said.

‘At the time these comments were made, I was a very immature, close-minded and insular 20-year-old.
