Marvin Humes says spending lockdown with wife Rochelle is ‘special with a baby boy on the way’

Marvin Humes has said being in lockdown with wife Rochelle has been ‘even more special with a baby boy on the way.’

The JLS star, 35, and TV presenter, 31, are set to welcome their third child, a son, in October, after first announcing she was expecting on Easter Sunday in April.

On Friday, Marvin gushed about spending quality time with his family in quarantine amid the coronavirus crisis, as he and Rochelle have been able to make ‘fantastic memories’ with their daughters Alaia-Mai, seven, and Valentina, three.

Of how the family are coping in lockdown, he explained: ‘Home is special for us, and we’ve tried to keep making fantastic memories and spend quality time as a family during lockdown. It’s even more special with a baby boy on the way too.

‘Trying to navigate family life and work commitments during lockdown at times has been challenging but we’ve both embraced the new normal, I guess, for ourselves but also the girls.

‘We’ve shifted our outlook to see it as time that’s been gifted to us to spend together at home.’

Marvin has teamed up with Movember for Father’s Day in order to help father’s across the nation who may have been struggling with their mental health amid the coronavirus crisis.

The men’s health charity have recorded almost 50 per cent of all fathers in the UK have been finding the lack of social interaction during the pandemic difficult, and Marvin is keen to help raise awareness of this issue for the organisation.

‘I think one of the main challenges is that a lot of men don’t feel like they have a support network there to reach out to,’ he explained.

‘A lot of guys struggle to open up and discuss their feelings and there’s this stigma that it’s embarrassing to say “you know what, I’m not okay” and these feelings of loneliness have just been compounded by the pandemic.

‘This is really eye opening to me and it’s something that we need to address and we can start by reaching out to the men in our lives.’

Marvin is set to take part in a #Dadvice social media campaign during Father’s Day, which will see him give advice to other fathers by speaking about his experiences and about father figures in his life.

Speaking about the charity event, Marvin added: ‘As a son, father and with a baby boy on the way, I’m proud to be raising vital awareness for Movember’s Father’s Day movement and their work towards futureproofing the health of men we love – a topic and cause that is often neglected.

‘Being a father is one of life’s most rewarding experiences, however it’s been eye-opening to see the research around men experiencing loneliness and isolation as they enter fatherhood, particularly in recent months.

‘Friendships, social connection and support is something that many of us take for granted and so this Father’s Day, join me in reaching out and honouring the mates and father figures in our lives who may need a friendly voice and donate at movember.com/fathersday.’

Movember have set up an online tool called Movember Conversations to help fathers navigate how to talk about their mental health, and more information can be found at conversations.movember.com.
