Was The Voice cheating scandal STAGED? American judge John Legend says Guy Sebastian’s incident could never happen on the U.S. version for a very simple reason

Guy Sebastian was at the centre of a cheating scandal on Monday’s episode of The Voice Australia after he turned his chair for contestant Wolf Winters despite already having a full team.

And on Friday, American judge John Legend said this would never happen on the US version of the singing show for a very simple reason.

Speaking on KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O show, the singer, 41, said: ‘On our show the button won’t work if your team is full.’

John explained that once a coach has filled their team, their buzzes are deactivated and they can’t turn their chairs.

‘There have been times when I picked my team and there has been somebody who is really great but that’s just the luck of the draw,’ he continued.

He added: ‘But this year I was the slowest coach so my team didn’t get filled until last so I didn’t have to worry about that this time.’

On Monday night, Guy turned his chair for contestant Wolf Winters, who performed a dark rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence.

This decision led to a showdown between Guy and Kelly Rowland, who still had a slot available on her team, and things became so heated a producer was forced to step in.

‘Wait, you can’t do that!’ Kelly cried out, prompting fellow coach Boy George to say: ‘You’re full. You can’t have this man anyway.’

Guy then tried to encourage Kelly to recruit Wolf, to which she replied: ‘I’m looking for something specific. How’re you going to tell me what to look for my team?’

Kelly then complained: ‘You’re cheating. You are cheating!’ At that moment, a producer stepped in to break up the fracas.

‘The problem we have is that unless we get Kelly to take him, we potentially have to tell him that he’s not through anymore,’ the producer explained.

It was eventually decided that Guy could have Wolf despite already having a full team, but would lose two of his singers in the battle rounds.
