Chicago rapper Tray Savage shot and killed Friday at the age of 26 while driving through his hometown

The rapper known as Tray Savage was shot to death on Friday morning while driving through the South Side of his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.

Savage, born Kentray Young, was only 26 years of age at the time of his death. 

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Know Who I Am rapper had just dropped off his girlfriend in the Chatham area of Chicago before gunshots struck him as he was driving.

The shooting occurred around 11am local time, and police said that Savage collided with three other cars before coming to a stop. 

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. 

Savage reportedly lived in the same neighborhood where he was shot.

Witnesses at the scene said they had previously seen a white vehicle, possibly a Mazda SUV, in the area at the time of the shooting, according to police.  

No one is yet in custody, however detectives are investigating Savage’s death as a homicide.

The rapper and producer was signed to the label Glo Gang, better known as Glory Boyz Entertainment, started by one of Tray’s mentors, Chief Keef.

In addition to his tracks Know Who I Am and Faces, Savage was well known for his 2013 collaboration with Chief Keef, Chiefin Keef, and his single Trap from the following year.
