Debbie was diagnosed with Uveal Effusion, a rare degenerative eye disease which saw her sadly lose her eyesight when Jess was growing up.

Speaking to new! magazine back in 2018, Debbie explained: ‘I lost my sight 10 years ago and she’s been a great help to me.

‘It was very sad at the time because she was studying at the Italia Conti Academy Of Theatre Arts when I started to lose my sight and dropped out to help me.’

Revealing that the troubles didn’t end there, Debbie detailed further tragedy within the family.

‘We also lost my grandson, Jess’s nephew, from meningitis at 13 months. There was a lot of sadness in our family at this point and Jessica suffered,’ she admitted.

Earlier this year, Jess revealed that she suffered with PTSD after struggling to deal with the catalogue of events.

She continued: 'The yellow handle is what we both hold on to so that mum can run safety next to me whilst I ensure she’s safe from any hazards'

Jess told new!: ‘From a young age I had to deal with a lot of domestic violence, then my nephew died and my mum went blind- it was one thing after the other.

‘It was a big build-up of all of that together. When I found out I had PTSD and had the tools to overcome it, I realised that if I hadn’t I’d probably still live in this terrified state all the time.
