Unilever is giving £900m to projects to tackle climate change and other environmental issues. 

The consumer goods giant behind brands from Marmite to Dove soap said it would distribute the cash over the next decade.

And it has promised to ensure all its products produce net zero carbon emissions by 2039, including the supply chain and materials used. 

To achieve this, Unilever will focus on working more closely with suppliers who are themselves committed to cutting carbon emissions to net zero by 2050. 

Chief executive Alan Jope said: ‘We have a responsibility to help tackle the [climate] crisis.’
