Olympians Laura and Jason Kenny share their joy as son Albert learns how to ride a bike in lockdown

Olympic gold medallists Laura and Jason Kenny were doting parents as they shared a video of their son Albert learning how to ride a bike on Wednesday.

The professional cyclist, 28, ran alongside her little one, two, as he pedalled on a small red bike, which didn’t have training wheels.

Laura’s athlete husband, 32, could be heard in the background giving Albert words of encouragement as he filmed his son speedily cycling on the empty road.

Must be in his genes! Olympic cycling champions Laura and Jason Kenny shared their joy as son Albert, two, learned how to ride a bike in lockdown on Wednesday

Gushing about the achievement, Laura wrote in a lengthy caption: ‘We are so proud of you Albie. I keep watching these videos back and cannot stop smiling.

‘I know everyone thinks “it’s in his genes” and I do worry about what pressure he might get during PE at school.

‘But he really isn’t a pick something up and just try it type of little boy. But when he does, he picks it up pretty quickly.’

Of how being in quarantine has helped prompt Arthur to cycle, she continued: ‘We hadn’t even really got him using a balance bike properly before lockdown because he just wasn’t interested in it.

‘But when you start running out of ideas to wear him out we started by getting him on it for a couple of minutes a day. He then started asking to ride it and that was it really.

‘Being a mum isn’t always easy but when they learn something like this it really does make you feel on top of the world.

‘Lockdown has meant sharing these special moments together as a family too.’

Laura won four gold medals at the London and Rio Olympics and is currently Britain’s most successful female Olympian.

In April 2018, Laura talked about how she suffered ‘mum guilt’ about going back to work after giving birth to her son during an appearance on Lorraine.

Six weeks after giving birth to Albert – who she calls Albie – she started training again and competed in her first event as a mother at the Track Cycling World Championships in March, for which she won a silver medal.

Speaking about her speedy return to work, Laura said: ‘I guess I didn’t realise how hard it was going to be leaving him behind, you do feel guilty. In any walk of life you’re going to feel guilty leaving them because as a mum, as a dad, you feel it’s your job to solely look after them.

‘It is difficult. We travel around the world, we’re away racing. There’s a lot of time you’re not with them.’

Laura credited fellow Olympian Jessica Ennis-Hill, who is mum to Reggie, four, and Olivia, one for helping her get through the guilt.

Laura continued: ‘Having Jessica Ennis-Hill there has been unbelievable because she’s done exactly what I want to do.’

She added: ‘It’s great that I’ve got Jess on the end of the phone that I can just message and say, ”How did you deal with that?”’
