Mike was Big Brother’s narrator from season one, which aired on Channel 10 in 2001, until its last season on Channel Nine in 2014.

‘Big Brother spent a lot of time and money on the house and finding the right housemates, with 50,000 people auditioning! A lot was riding on it… and it’s all paid off,’ he said confidently.

‘I thought it would rate well and it just depended on the housemates… and the housemates are great, so I think it’s going to keep smashing it!’

'I still get messages everyday from [fans] who miss the show and ask when it's coming back':  Mike was Big Brother's narrator from 2001 to 2014. He also appeared on spin-off shows Up Late and Friday Night Live, and even helped with hosting duties at evictions. Pictured with host Jackie Henderson in 2008

Mike said it was difficult to predict how the new format would be received by viewers, but he knew it would initially perform well.

‘I knew that everyone would watch the first episode, because it hasn’t been on for a long time and I still get messages everyday saying they miss the show and asking when it is coming back.’

‘And it came back and people watched the first episode because they wanted to go, “hang on a minute, who are these people?”, “is it going to be any good?” and so now it will come down to the next few weeks, and how it plays out,’ Mike explained.

He added: ‘Judging by the first few episodes and the advancement of technology in the house and how people are taking to it online- I think it’s [Big Brother’s new format] here to say.’

As for the reboot’s host Sonia Kruger, Mike said he believed she was doing a ‘splendid job’ in the role.

Sonia previously hosted Big Brother on Channel Nine.

So far 20 housemates have entered the compound of the 2020 season, and three have already been eliminated.

Mike said his recap show, The Big Bro Show, would not only cover what viewers may have missed throughout the week, but will include chats with old housemates from previous seasons, recent evictees and insider updates from host Sonia.

He also interviews former Big Brother stars on his podcast, Mike On The Mike.
