Roll up, roll up! Clever squirrel walks a tightrope to get his paws on a peanut

A squirrel determined to earn itself a peanut walks along a tightrope in this incredible footage.
The clever squirrel notices a peanut hanging from a piece of string tied across some wooden decking in Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Canada, and decides it must have the tasty snack.
Rocky, as named by the woman recording the video, starts by pacing the floor underneath the dangling peanut to try and work out how to get to it.

He initially stands on his back legs and reaches up to try and sniff the nut.
Realising he is not tall enough to reach properly, Rocky climbs up onto a wooden handrail and tries jumping to grab the nut.
When the squirrel is unable to get the nut, he walks across the string holding the nut in the air in a trick that would look at home at the circus.
Rocky is rewarded for his persistence when he finally claims his tasty peanut prize.
A woman recording the video is heard saying: ‘And that’s how Rocky does it.’
Rocky decides the best way to reach the nut is by walking across the ‘tightrope’ hung over the wooden decking. His persistence pays off and he is rewarded with the tasty treat

Squirrels are apparently regular visitors at the garden in the video, but Rocky is said to have shown incredible puzzle-solving abilities.
The woman who recorded the video on June 1 said: ‘Several squirrels have been coming to my deck to be fed peanuts.
‘Rocky, one particularly ambitious squirrel showed an aptitude for problem-solving, always getting nuts no matter where I put them.
‘I tied a nut to a piece of fishing line which was strung across the deck rails. He first tried to jump and grab the nut but then climbed across the fishing line, freed the nut, positioned it in his mouth while balancing on his hind legs, and jumped down with ease.’
