Charli XCX urges her LGBTQ+ fans to help support charities aiding black transgender people

Charlie XCX has urged her LGBTQ+ fans to help support black transgender people in the wake of Nina Pop and Tony McDade’s tragic deaths in May.

The singer, 27, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a lengthy statement where she drew attention to a number of charities and funds that help provide services and support for black transgender people protesting after George Floyd‘s death.

Appealing to fans to help how they can, she wrote: ‘Dear my LGBTQ+ fanbase – I know you’re out there. I’ve seen you pack out my shows, I’ve met many of you, we’ve hung out, we’ve partied, we’ve celebrated.

For a good cause: Charli XCX urged her LGBTQ+ fans to help support charities aiding black transgender people in an Instagram post she shared on Wednesday

‘June is a big month for the lgbtq+ community and its allies, like myself, who are so honored to stand beside you. Pride Month is a moment to seize, to fly the flag and give back to the community.

‘This month, we must really focus on the latter of those 3 things. We must give back. We must give back, recognize and acknowledge the black trans community in particular.

‘And this isn’t something we should just do THIS June. This is something we should do EVERY June; every day in fact.’

Tagging the Black Trans Femmes in the Arts collective, the Black Trans Travel Fund, The Okra Project, and For The Gworls Party, she told fans that if they were able to help donate money they ‘must’.

Charli explained: ‘This fund will be used to support black trans protesters with resources, medical care and bail.’

She went on to ask fans to support the Nina Pop Mental Health Recovery Fund and the Tony McDade Mental Health Recovery Fund, which help give black transgender people free mental health sessions with a licensed Black therapist.

The singer added that fans should share information about the charities and funds on social media so that others could follow suit.

And in conclusion she added: ‘Let’s come together and make a mass effort to support a section of the lgbtq+ community that is more often than not unheard, repressed and violated. #blacktransrights matter. Let’s amplify their message.’
