Viewers slam former Idol winner Natalie Gauci’s Voice performance

‘She wasn’t even good!’ Viewers slam former Australian Idol winner Natalie Gauci’s performance on The Voice

Former Australian Idol winner Natalie Gauci returned to the spotlight on Tuesday night as a contestant on The Voice.

And while her performance of Sia’s The Greatest earned her a spot on Guy Sebastian’s team, it received some backlash from viewers on social media.

‘That was not good,’ wrote one. ‘Let’s forget the fact she won Idol but her vocals were horrible. If that was any other singer no one would have turned.’

Another commented: ‘I thought she was gonna kill it. That did not deserve a chair turn, she’s there for the storyline’.

‘This was the most mediocre performance of the night, and from an Idol winner…’ wrote another.

However, it wasn’t all negative, with many viewers praising the brunette and defending her vocals.

‘Song choice is her problem not her voice,’ stated one fan.

‘I liked her performance, it was vulnerable and just maybe she wanted to sing like that. It wasn’t perfect to how she wanted, but the whole style of performance was on purpose,’ explained another loyal fan.

Natalie won the fifth season of Australian Idol back in 2007, beating out runner-up Matt Corby.

She returned to the spotlight on Tuesday to audition on The Voice, but in an awkward turn of events, coach Guy Sebastian failed to recognise her.

‘I know I’m looking at you weird, but do I know you? Can you tell us a bit about yourself?’ he said.

Natalie awkwardly responded: ‘Uh, well, OK. My name is Natalie Gauci, and you might know me from another TV show called Australian Idol.’

Guy then critiqued Natalie’s vocals, going as far as to say that she didn’t nail the performance.

‘You’ll watch this back and think, “I didn’t love that bit.” There were bits where I thought, “She hasn’t nailed that.”

‘But in the end, what I heard was vulnerability. As a coach, I’d love to help you rediscover why you fell in love with singing in the first place.’
