The Bachelorette’s Rachel Lindsay details ‘peaceful’ and ‘beautiful’ protest experience in Miami

She made history as the first African-American to be chosen by ABC to be The Bachelorette.

And so it’s no surprise that Rachel Lindsay was among those who turned out to protest the killing of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis.

In her new podcast Higher Learning, she explained she and husband Bryan Abasolo had participated in a march in Miami, saying: ‘It was peaceful. It was beautiful.’

Lindsay, 35, told her co-host Van Lathan that she heard ‘beautiful speeches’ at the rally, according to E News! 

‘It was beautiful to see so many people in unity marching and protesting for what they believed in and the injustices they’re facing in this country,’ the reality star said.

She went on to add that she was dismayed to see other sections of the community seemingly going about their lives as if nothing was happening. 

‘I cross over a bridge and it’s just another day to pull out the yachts. It’s just another day for you to have drinks with your friends,’ she said.

‘It’s just such a harsh reality that what we deal with and what other people don’t have to deal with because it doesn’t directly affect them.’

She shared a photo to her Instagram story showing herself and her husband wearing face masks.

She wrote across the image: ‘Today we went beyond our platform. Today we put action behind our words. Today we used our voices to make a difference.’

Lindsay went on: ‘Today is just one day in the fight. We have to keep pushing forward and demanding change.’ 

Lindsay, from Dallas, Texas, first found fame as a contestant on season 21 of The Bachelor with Nick Viall.

She then went on to be The Bachelorette on the 13th season of the spin-off.

In the season finale, she chose Miami native Abasolo and the couple tied the knot in August 2019.
