‘I was so ignorant and uneducated’: Jack Vidgen apologies for making ‘racist’ comments in the past as he supports the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement

Jack Vidgen has apologised for making ‘racist’ comments in the past as he supports the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement, which was sparked by the death of George Floyd.

The 23-year-old singer shared a post to Instagram on Monday, saying he was ‘once ignorant and uneducated’ and told people to educate themselves about ‘systemic racism’.

‘It was a hard pill to swallow when I started being educated about racism and started realising that even though I didn’t think I was racist in any way, a lot of things I said and also didn’t say were racist,’ he wrote.

He added: ‘I was 19 when a friend pulled me up on something I said. Looking back now, I can’t believe it came out of my mouth, but at the time I was so ignorant and uneducated, I didn’t think it was racist or prejudice.’

Jack went on to say anyone who doesn’t understand Black Lives Matter movement, should educate themselves about racism.

‘If you don’t understand or agree with myself and millions of people posting about how BLACK LIVES DO MATTER, please educate yourself. Research. Google. Read books,’ he continued.

The singer also said he is still learning about ‘systemic racism and how ingrained it is in society’.

‘I’m not going to pretend to even begin to understand how people of colour are feeling right now and have always felt but I just want to say I love you and I stand with you,’ he wrote.

This comes after protests and riots have erupted across the U.S. since George Floyd, an unarmed black man, died in Minneapolis last Monday after a white cop pressed his knee against his neck for eight minutes.

The officer involved, Derek Michael Chauvin, was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter days after footage of the incident went viral.

Protesters took to the streets demanding reform after what many consider another senseless death and example of police brutality.

Mr Floyd had been accused of using a counterfeit $20 bill at a deli.

Los Angeles also erupted in violence Saturday as cops in riot gear clashed with protesters who sprayed graffiti and torched police cruisers while officers shot rubber bullets into crowds and beat demonstrators with batons.
